weird video problem

Post by Tr!Force »

i have played with JK2mv from the start, so... i feel something "weird" from the beggining, and i recently checked what is... is something related with lights or something like that. because i feel the "video" too dark (not r_gamma related).

i recently compared with a normal JK2mp.exe running, in the same game and look at the differences..

JK2MV.exe

jk2MP.exe

how i can fix this in jk2mv???
PD: i just put the jk2mp.exe into the same folder where jk2mv.exe is, and i can see the difference

Which resolution? Which gamma value? Which gammamethod (r_gammaMethod)?
Are you sure you were using the same settings for jk2mp and jk2mv? After all jk2mv stores the settings in other config files and your name isn't the same on both screenshots.
If you are really using the same setting in both screenshots I suggest setting the gammamethod (r_gammaMethod) to 1. Gammamethod 1 is the old basejk/jk2mp version of gamma. Gammamethod 2 is the new default method of jk2mv, using a gamma shader. The advantage of gammamethod 2 is that is does NOT affect all your screens. Even in windowed mode gammamethod 2 does NOT affect anything outside of your jk2mv window. And lots of graphic drivers on Linux had issues with gammamethod 1, causing the game to appear too dark.

about the configs, i tried everything by default.

about the screenshots, that was my first test, testing separately jk2 games, after that i just deleted all configs in both (jk2 and jk2mv) with no results, and the last test, was using only 1 game (the jk2mv one) with the normal jk2mp inside (obiously was the same game, no different configs).

ANYWAYS is fixed now, was the gammamethod thing. Thanks! some friends has the same problem too! :D
PD: you should put this in JK2mv menus options (where dynamic glow is)

with r_gammamethod 2 does the gamma slider work? so if you set r_gamma to e.g. 5 does it change something?

r gammamethod 1 works for me and my friends, 2 is too dark.

About r gamma, everything is working fine with that, there is no problem, but r gamma is only the brightness, my problem was on that shader mentioned by daggo...

So, i really suggest to put that option on the jkmv ingame/game menu, my friends got really susprised how it changes, saying "oh this is how we remember the game" :D

no you dont really get it. switch to r_gammamethod 2 and try changing the brightness (in jk2s settings). does something happen? no? then it is a bug.

I just tested this. The gamma slider works with both modes. But the colors seem to be washed out/dull with gamma method 2.

yes, there is no problems with the gamma slider, isnt related with that, and.. is not the same.

I did this thest with every game config by default:

A: r_gammamethod 2 with default brightness
B: r_gammamethod 2 with increased brightness
C: r_gammamethod 1 with default brightness
D: r_gammamethod 1 with increased brightness

well if you set it that high. normally somthing like 1.2-1.5 should be used.
EDIT: seems like the hardware gamma isnt the same on every machine :/

Triforce, can you make a screenshot with the settings of C but with r_overbrightbits 0?

ok. that's the problem. the gamma shaders (r_gammamethod 2) dont apply overbrightbits
Going to look if it can be ported somehow.
