Dark-Server Ping Changes

Post by Erloeser. »

Hey guys,
I changed my Internetprovider 2 days ago and since then i recognized heavy Pingchanges when I'm on Homebase.
Before, with my old 16k connection, I had constant 56-60 Ping and now, with the new 50k connection, it increased to 86-90,
what makes the game pretty laggy and almost unplayable the way i normally would do.
Its actually not because of my connection though, coz on all the other servers I have my normal Ping with like 48.
The ping on Homebase has always been a little higher than normal of course, but not as high as it is right now.
I also didnt chang anything regarding the settings like /snaps or /cl_maxpackets.
My settings for that stuff are:
snaps: 30
maxpackets: 30
rate: 100.000

Any help for that?

Greets,

Because of your name I see that you are from Germany.
Did you switch to the Telekom from another provider? If yes, I could have an explanation for you.

maxpackets 30 is kinda low. Not that it would affect your ping.

@ Ouned
I did. Well at least the Provider I have now is using their connections, coz when i do a speedtest on like speedtest.net or something
it shows my IP and says that its Telekom. The Provider is called 1&1 but like i said, think they use Telekom's connections.
What do you think is causing it?

Because your data may need to go over the USA or London even though Daggolins server is hosted in Germany, too.
Not sure whether you know how the internet works but basically there are big exchange points where all these internet providers come together.
One of the biggest is in Frankfurt and guess which provider isn't connected because they suck? Right. Telekom.
They have their own exchange point's and don't want to connect to DE-CIX, which is why data in some cases even goes through the US because there is no shorter way for it.
Daggolin has some smaller local provider which most likely is connected to DE-CIX but not the Telekom. Like everyone else.

Open cmd.exe and enter "tracert dark-clan.servegame.com" (That basically is DARK Homebase's address)
Here is what it shows for me:

Code: Select all

  1 <1 ms <1 ms 1 ms fritz.box [192.168.10.1]
  2 * * * Zeitüberschreitung der Anforderung.
  3 11 ms 9 ms 10 ms ip5886dca6.dynamic.kabel-deutschland.de [88.134.220.166]
  4 11 ms 11 ms 13 ms ip5886c296.dynamic.kabel-deutschland.de [88.134.194.150]
  5 24 ms 20 ms 23 ms ip5886cae6.dynamic.kabel-deutschland.de [88.134.202.230]
  6 24 ms 28 ms 25 ms ip5886ca0a.dynamic.kabel-deutschland.de [88.134.202.10]
  7 27 ms 25 ms 23 ms ip5886ca11.dynamic.kabel-deutschland.de [88.134.202.17]
  8 * * * Zeitüberschreitung der Anforderung.
  9 26 ms 32 ms 28 ms 185.22.44.3
 10 * * * Zeitüberschreitung der Anforderung.
 11 26 ms 28 ms 30 ms 185.7.199.7
That's how you can see which route your data makes though the internet.
Not sure whether the situation has improved since 2014 so would be interesting to see what your result is.

Yes it does, but what is to mention is that i did that around nighttime when the server was almost empty.
Because whenever the server is kinda empty, with only up to 8,9 ppl the ping stays quite normal with about 60, but with more ppl on
it i get the typical 90 ping back again.
But i never had a problem with a full server before.
Before, even with 20+ ppl, I never had any fps or ping issues.
Also strange is that i have a even better ping than i expected on the other servers.
There I have like 29-34 which is crazy in my opinion.
The problem is still just on dark server what is quite annoying ...

the ping alone is not very meaningful in JK2. you can easily cut your ping by half by playing around with /rate etc.
But that doesn't mean your experience less lagg because of that.
