ManHunt 1.04 Beta test event

Hello everyone :)

I've recently finished a new gamemode I've been working, known in the 1.02 community as ManHunt :D In 1.02 they've played it for ages, though they've had to play it manually; I've made it into an automated gamemode, which will hopefully get the more casual players onboard with ManHunt too :D

Description
In ManHunt everybody starts off on the blue team. The mod will then randomly select a player to be the hunter, and force that player onto the red team. When a hunter / player from the red team kills someone from the blue team, then they will be forced onto the red team too, to become hunters as well. The round ends when there's only one player left on the blue team, and whoever that might be will then be the winner of the round. :D

As told, this is something that have been played in 1.02 for quite a while by now, but I'm very excited to bring it to 1.04 as well :)

Beta event
I would very much like to see as many as possible for the first beta test event, which will be this thursday, 16th of june @ about 8PM / 20:00 GMT+2 / Central European time.

There must be at least 3 players in order to start the round, but if we're only three people testing it, then the round will end shortly after it've started. The more players we'll end up being, the more fun we'll end up having :D

The server will be a 1.04 server called TSL ~ Star :)

So please, come and help me test out the gamemode :D

Sad to hear that, but hopefully you will have a chance to try it some other time :)

Sounds a bit like "Assimilation" from EF1 (I am pretty sure I posted something similar in another manhunt topic on jk2.info). One player started as "Borg Queen" with only a low range assimilation weapon and automatic health regeneration. The other team started as non-Borg. The queen couldn't carry weapons, but her close-combat attack was an instant assimilation. Goal of the queen was to assimilate all opponents. Goal of the non-Borg was to destroy the queen somehow. Every new borg had a weak close-combat assimilation-weapon and one long-range weapon, but only the close-combat weapon turned other players into borg. Every 15 seconds a borg-player could teleport a bit (the person's body disappeared and green glow floated around his former position, the player could now move around like in spectator with the glow following him for a few seconds until materialising wherever his glow had moved). The queen has to wait 60 seconds before teleporting again.
Quite a fun gametype and code of "Assimilation" was reused for "Jedi Master":

Code: Select all

	if ( g_gametype.integer == GT_JEDIMASTER && ent->client->ps.isJediMaster )
	{//Jedi Master (was Borg queen) has only 1 weapon
		return qfalse;
	}
Been thinking about making something assimilation-like for jk2 myself, so your manhunt gametype sounds quite interesting. Hope I find the time to play. ;)

I think I remember reading that post :D And yes, I am looking forward to try it with hopefully a good handful of players :D The more the better :D

Sounds like RedRover gametype from SaberMod ^^
I'll most likely be around during that time to try it out.

No clue, haven't tried SaberMod or that gamemode yet :D Just made a gamemode for something 1.02 players have been playing for some years by now I believe :) Maybe ManHunt and RedRover are the same gamemode, but with different names, just like Gun Game and Arms Race are, depending on the game you play :D I believe someone just told me there was similar elements, but that the modes weren't exactly the same, but again, I don't know anything about RedRover, so I guess you or Fau would need to give a description for it :)

Will be looking forward to see you during the event :D

Thanks to those of you who came by the server to help me test the mode :) A few minor issues, mainly related to the "winner" message sometimes being sent to whoever got killed right before the winner, but that should hopefully be an easy fix :)

Again, thank you :D Glad you seemed to enjoy the mode, even when there was so few players :D

Is this also going to be for 1.02?

Sorry for not showing up, I mixed up the dates. Will there be another event? I'm kinda sick of 1.04 players not actually playing the game, maybe everyone is just bored of playing old game types with the same ppl over and over again.

Red Rover is similar in how player is changing team when he dies, but general rules are a bit differen't. It's a team-based ffa where you goal is to be at the top of the scoreboard and round ends when everyone dies on the other team.
I cleaned up the code and squashed it into a single commit recently to finally be done with it, it's here in case you want to have a look: https://github.com/aufau/SaberMod/commi ... 4a7762f054 (this branch may be rebased)

Eventually :) I had originally planned to port my mod to the mvsdk, when my 1.04 mod is finished, but instead I am going to work with Daggolin and a few other modders on bigger mod project instead, but I am quite sure my Man Hunt mode will also be a part of that mod eventually :) So, in short: Not right now, but hopefully at some point in another mod :D
