Star Wars The Force Awakens - Rating

Post by Kazuka »

Hello guys,

I'm curious about how the JK2 community did like the new Star Wars movie "The Force Awakens".
So if you want you can give your evaluation above this post.
Also if you want to write something about it, whatever it is related to "The Force Awakens", feel free to do.

Can't wait to know how you guys felt about episode 7.

ATTENTION: If you haven't seen the movie yet, be aware of potential spoilers.

i will not give a "very good" vote because:
- They killed Han Solo
- Luke Skywalker appears only 30 seconds at the end
- There were no many lightsaber combats :?
... c'mon!

anyways, the rest was really nice, was a good movie from my point of view 9/10 ;)

Yeah I totally agree on point one and three.
It was sad to see him just around 30 seconds but I'm sure they will fix it in episode 8 and we will see him for longer.
Unless they do the same with him like with point one at this time :o :?

I thought it was good. It was a very different Star Wars movie which did many new and many old things, some for the better and some worse. The characters were a lot more enjoyable than the new trilogy, and the action as well. I have criticism of course, but in light of all the expectations that people had for SW7, it was quite alright.
I think some clichés could have been left out without hurting the reach of the movie.

Some things that made it less believable and authentic for me:
-Plot turned out to be A New Hope on too many points. Could have made it more interesting than another planet destroyer with an exploitable weakness. Also of course the Han situation to Rey resembles how Obi Wan was to Luke.
-Kylo Ren seemed like a threatening and powerful character at first (reference freeze time on bullet etc), then contrasted by a more 'pathetic' side later, as he didn't seem like he knew what weapon he had, how to protect himself and how to (probably) use the freaking cross guard to his huge advantage :P
-Rey transitioned too quickly to force mastery.

I first saw the original (English) edition on the big screen, and a few days after saw it again on Spanish.

My final verdict is 7/10 for the original and 6/10 for the Spanish, because there is too many little jokes that are very bad translated on the Spanish version.

For example when Rey says to Finn, "Someone's locked on to us. All the controls are overridden", you get it right? you know what is happening, well in the Spanish version you just don't understand what is happening, and more thing I don't remember right now...

You had the chance to say firewall and you blew it.

Ironic though, given the contents of said referenced wall.

So I watched it finally and gave it a "good" rating.

I liked the characters, this must be the strongest point. What a relief after ep. I-III. Acting and dialogues were a bit weak at some points, but main characters made up for this.
I didn't like various logical/technological/characterological inconsequences and simplifications, Lucas was actually pretty good at avoiding them by having a wider vision of his universe.
It felt a bit "Disneyish" if I can say that, but if anything it made me think a bit better of this Disney non-animated style for teenagers.

I tried to compare it to original trilogy in various aspects (it really asks to be compared, doesn't it?) and I decided it doesn't make any sense. These are different times, original trilogy has been watched for many years and it was surely received differently by various audiences and generations.

All these similarities to original trilogy made me think it's just a Star Wars for new generation. Was a bit disappointed by that, but why not if it still works. You can throw all the money you want at a film and it doesn't guarantee to be good or memorable. They took the safe approach and it kinda worked, although I doubt it will be memorable unless they really step it up in next episodes. Characters and potential for interesting story development are there!

And on a final note: why so short? After lotr I kinda expect these epic movies to be 3h. There was not enough time for some character development. I also read there won't be director's cut edition :-(
